Are you comparing your results to others?
When you look at what other people are doing and compare yourself to them, it’s so easy to think that because they have certain qualities, because they have certain conditions in their life, that’s why they’re successful.
The truth is, success always comes from within. I’ve heard so many people say different things like, “Because I’m on my own, I can’t be as successful in my business”, or “If I had a partner it would be easier.” And then the next week I’ll hear somebody say, “Because I have a family to support, or because I have a husband that I have to answer to, I am not as successful.”
It’s so easy to look to our conditions or circumstances as the reason why we can’t do something. A recent client was looking at becoming a life coach, and and she called me up and said, “The reason you are so successful is because you have a business and marketing background.” She’s listing these things, but she was really listing all the reasons she felt she couldn’t be successful. And that’s just not true.
Each one of us has our own unique gifts and talents, and the power that creates success lives within us.
If there’s any part of you that’s looking to the outside world, or looking to your conditions, comparing yourself to what other people should do, instead we want to ask the very powerful question, “What would I love?”
What would you love with your life? Not what do you think you should do, what are other people doing with similar experience, background, or age – its what would you love? what lights you up?
Howard Thurman says don’t ask what the world needs, ask what makes you come alive. What the world needs is more people that have come alive. So in your life right now, notice where maybe you’ve been comparing yourself to other people, where you’ve been looking at your age, your stage, or your experience as reasons why you can’t accomplish your dreams.
Make a commitment from here on in that you’re no longer going to compare to other people. Commit to ask that question “What would I love?” What makes me come alive? And serve that idea with action. Because that power that’s within you is far greater than any circumstance. You’ve got unique gifts and talents that this world needs. Go do what makes you come alive.
To you living a life you love,
Stacey
